🎀 Meet Dolly: Our Brand-New Baby Mini Donkey! 🫏💕
There’s a new little set of hooves at ROSE Therapeutic Farm & Goat Yoga, and she may already be one of the biggest personalities on the farm!
Meet Dolly, our brand-new baby mini donkey. 🫏🎀
Dolly was born right here on the farm last week, and from the very beginning, she has been full of spunk, curiosity and personality. She’s tiny, fuzzy, ridiculously cute — and already knows how to steal the show. 💕
If you’ve never seen a newborn donkey in person, you are in for a treat!

🫏 What Is a Baby Donkey Called?
Here’s your first donkey fun fact!
A baby donkey is called a foal, just like a baby horse. A female donkey is called a jenny or jennet, while a male is called a jack.
So technically, our Little Miss Dolly is a jenny foal. 🎀
🤰 Donkey Pregnancy Is LONG!
One of the most surprising things about donkeys is how long mama carries her baby.
A donkey pregnancy typically lasts around 12 months — much longer than a human pregnancy! Gestation can vary, often ranging from roughly 11 to 14 months.
And after all that waiting, most donkey pregnancies result in just ONE foal. Twins can happen, but they are uncommon and can be risky.
Mama does a whole lot of work for one very special little baby. 💗
💕 Baby Donkeys Get Moving FAST
Donkey foals may look tiny and delicate, but they don't stay helpless for very long.
A healthy newborn foal will generally begin trying to stand very soon after birth and should nurse within its first few hours of life. That first milk, called colostrum, is especially important because it provides antibodies that help protect the newborn.
Within a surprisingly short time, baby donkeys can be up exploring, following mama and discovering the world around them.
And Dolly? Let's just say she wasted very little time showing us that she has opinions. 😂
🌸 Fun Donkey Facts You May Not Know
🫏 Those giant ears have a purpose!Donkeys developed in hot, dry environments. Their large ears help them hear sounds from far away and also help release body heat.
💕 Donkeys form strong bonds.They are social animals and can become deeply attached to their companions.
🧠 They're incredibly smart.Donkeys sometimes get labeled as “stubborn,” but they're actually cautious thinkers. If something doesn't feel safe, a donkey may stop and assess the situation rather than immediately running.
👶 Baby donkeys stay close to mama.Even as they become more adventurous, young foals rely heavily on their mothers for milk, protection and learning.
🌱 They grow up slowly.Dolly may be teeny today, but over the coming months you'll get to watch her personality — and those ears! — grow right along with her.

Her name felt especially fitting for this little girl.
She arrived with plenty of spunk, sass and star power, so Dolly just seemed like the perfect name. ⭐️💕
And judging by the amount of attention she's already getting around the farm, Little Miss Dolly may know she's a star too!
